Marconi Overview
In 1990. The company’s name was derived from its founders' first
names: Francois, Onat, Robert and Eric. FORE commercialized the ATM
market and its products were widely deployed by large enterprises as
well as carriers. In late 1999, the company was acquired by Marconi plc
of London and became its Marconi Communications division. In 2006,
Ericsson acquired Marconi for its telecommunications equipment and
international services business.
FORE Systems, Inc. is a leader in the development of ATM computer network
switches. It was the first company to commercially develop this type of switch
in 1992. Since that time FORE has broadened its product range, partly through
acquisitions of other companies, to include a variety of different types of
switch and networking products, with the company's emphasis remaining on ATM
technology. Having grown substantially since it’s founding, FORE has become a
large and established force in the ever-growing field of computer network
switching equipment.
